Happy New Year - can you believe it is 2014?! Our first semester has wrapped up and we have covered the scientific method (yes, you will be using this for the rest of your scientific lives!) as well as Forces and Motion in grade 6 and States of Matter in grade 7. Now, we are moving into a new semester with loads of knowledge and skills to attain and acquire! First stop for grade 6: Earth in the Universe followed by Structures and Functions of Living Organisms. And for grade 7: Cycles in Earth Systems followed by The Flow of Energy through EcoSystems. We will also be participating in a school-wide science fair later in the year that will be judged by grade 11 and 12 students in the IB program! Lots to look forward to for 2014!
Welcome!
Hello Dragons! My name is Ms. Sara Sokola and I am a proud Seminole of Florida State University where I graduated with a degree in hospitality management and administration. In 2008, I joined Teach for America as a Houston corps member and most recently taught science and public speaking, and led the service learning program at Korea International School - Jeju. I also had the opportunity to direct Jeju Furey, a charity that brings the local and foreign community together and raises funds through sports tournaments. My passion is leadership development through service and sports, and I am extremely excited to continue coaching volleyball with the Ladies Varsity team. Also, my goals as an educator far exceed the classroom walls. I have been overcome with a desire to be an active agent in equipping a generation with the skills and determination to create a positive and sustaining change within it’s own family tree. My long-term goal is to eventually open and run an inner-city, international boarding school; my short term goal is to gain experiences in excellent schools, through the teaching, boarding, and leadership perspectives. I am absolutely looking forward to calling Shanghai home and contributing to our Dragon community!
